The Iron-Month challenge is a remote, whole community, inclusive challenge, taking place during the month of May 2021 (Sat. 1 May – Sun. 30 May).

Do you think you could complete an Ironman-style triathlon (42.2k run/walk, 180.2k cycle, 3.9k swim) in a month / three weeks / a fortnight / a week / three days / two days / a day?

Find out by joining supporters, friends, family, and the service users themselves of the Dublin An Saol Neuro Rehab Day Centre in the Iron-Month challenge.

The Iron-Month Challenge 2021 is the first annual fundraiser for the An Saol Foundation Dublin Neurological Rehabilitation Day Centre. All proceeds will be ringfenced and be exclusively used for the direct benefit of clients of the Centre. Donations will not be used to cover day-to-day running costs.

Unleash Your Strength

The Iron Month serves to remind us that everyone has different abilities and capabilities in life. Some people may be able to complete the whole challenge in one day. Others may take weeks or days. It is up to you how much of the challenge you complete at a time, logging your walk/run/cycle/swim as you go. The aim of the game is to have gone the distance by midnight on Sunday 30 May

At An Saol, we afford every opportunity to those with a severe Acquired Brain Injury (sABI) and other neurological injuries or conditions to live their life with dignity and respect, to continue to improve, to regain as much independence and self-determination as possible, and for their injuries to heal. We support all those affected, including the families and those closest to those directly affected. We strive to do this in a truly supportive, client-centred and client-driven environment.

Rehabilitation, integration, participation, and equality for those affected by a sABI is not a nice to have, it is a basic human right we are claiming for those who cannot claim it by themselves.

In doing this, we connect the latest research with the practice of rehabilitation. We create an inclusive health and social rehabilitation environment, supported by our experienced therapists and other support staff, we use state of the art rehabilitative and orthopaedic technologies and methods, collaborate with researchers and practitioners nationally and internationally, and encourage the circle of support of those affected by sABI, directly and indirectly, to remain actively involved in “life and living”.

While An Saol does receive much needed funding from the HSE, we need to continuously fundraise to sustain and develop our services.

Join the Challenge

Any donation is greatly appreciated and goes towards vital support for the most vulnerable in our community. We will ringfence all financial support raised during fundraising activities for the direct benefit of our clients. Your donations will not be used to finance the day-to-day running costs of the Centre or “disappear” to cover general administration costs.

Even if you can’t join in the challenge, we would really appreciate it if you could spread the word and make a donation to the cause. Please spread the word on your own social media, using the hashtag, #IronMonth.

An Saol Foundation

We will afford every opportunity to people with a severe Acquired Brain Injury (sABI) to live their life with dignity and respect, to continue to improve, to regain as much independence and self-determination as possible, and for their injuries to heal, supported by adequate therapies.

AN SAOL is about the quality of life we should provide for our sons, daughters, family and friends when they are at their most vulnerable.

However careful we are, and however slim the odds, a severe brain injury is something that can happen to anyone, and any family, at any time. One second, things are happy and normal… then, heaven forbid, the next second they are anything but.

Life can change in the blink of an eye… but quality of life should not. Some are quick to believe life will no longer be worth living after such an unfortunate event. Worse, precious little is done to help make lives more livable from that point forward!

It’s inconceivable that we use the latest in medical technology to save someone’s life… yet ignore research and best practices to then care for them. Please help us raise awareness. One day we’ll all realise this is wrong… How about TODAY?
